Welcome to our Adventure!!!

Recently I suffered a heart attack and felt I needed to do something to improve my health. So I decided to walk across the US!. Who knows how far I'll get . I hope that I don't give up before the walk is complete. I have a job http://www.adventureamerica.com/ and I write books http://www.doorwaytozahr.com/, so I'm not able to do the walk on a continues basses. But I restart exactly where I leave off each time. With Alex taking care of logistics and drop off and pick up at the end of the walk each day. Come join us! We would welcome other walkers.
Have a good one!

From Placerville to Camino

Today Amal, Jackie and me walked a total of 8,5 miles starting from Placerville and finishing by walking to the town of Camino. It was a crazy walk we started out fine but about half way on the trail we met up with a wild turkey that decided we were in his territory he displayed feathers and chased after us down the trail. It was humorous to see the fellow strutting his stuff. later the trail ended unexpectedly at the edge of hwy 50 and we were forced to walk the last mile and a half across the woods we got caught up in a huge field of black berry and got all scratched up. Finally we managed to find a dirt road and came out near the Camino grammar school. Quite a day. We found no money today.

Rescue to Placerville

3/16/10 Had a very difficult walk today. Managed to do 10 miles but because we climbed in that 10 miles 1000 feet of elevation higher I guess I got wore out. It goes to show I'm not all the way healed from the heart attack or else not healed from taking poor care of my health in the first place. Any rate we manage to make it from the town of Rescue to the town of Placerville. We talked to several people on the walk. This is the home town of Jackie and a couple of times people noticed her and pulled their cars over to talk to her and me. It was a nice walk besides being so tiring for some reason. We found nineteen cents.

Pleasant Grove House

3/14/10 We walked from the Purple place along Green Valery road a full 10 miles, it started off cold that morning but soon warmed up. We stopped at a small cafe and ate some breakfast around 10am finally ending up at rescue elementary school. Amal my boy, of course was not even tired from the walk. We walked past the old pony express stop called "Pleasant Grove
House."

It was very interesting historical land mark. We found 44 cents on the walk.

Folsom

3/12/10 Walked today from the town of Folsom about 7.0 miles ending up on Green Valley road at a nice restaurant and bar called The purple place. We met the owner mike who was very nice and then had lunch. The walks first half was great but by the time we reached the Folsom dam the rain started to fall, it continued to get heaver and heaver. Finally we managed to make it to the Purple Place Grill and Bar on Green Valley road where the rain started to come down so heavy we called the walk quits for the day. It was a nice walk all and all , Folsom lake look great and we walked close enough to hear the convicts at the prison as we walked past across the rivers gorge from us. No money found today ;-(

Mike's New Hiking Companion and passing by his childhood

Mike picked up a new hiking companion - Jackie >

We didn't find his name today. Maybe another day (with better shoes!)

Reminiscing of his childhood days here. He Yes, he's climbing in his socks! He remembered this exact rock with the grind stones visited this bridge many times as a teenager.

Someone was nice enough to install a floating outhouse. We were glad we didn't
have to go.The water was kind of cold for a swim today.

Nothing stops Mike when he's on a mission!

3/10/10 Walked today about 6 miles still getting over a chest cold so took it easy. I meet up with Jackie my new logistics/hiking helper.
She has extensive experience in hiking has hiked to over 100 different peeks in California. we started at the fish hatchery on hazel and walked to Downtown Folsom it was nice weather and lots of birds flying with white puffy clouds set against a blue clear morning sky.
We stopped and looked at Indian grinding stones along the river then we hiked onto the bottom part of rainbow bridge.
I had signed my name all over it in the early seventies, as I was raised not far from there in Granite Bay. Another dry day for finding money. Must be the spandex that they wear on the American River bike trail, no pockets.

Cordova Park - American River

3/8/10 Walked about seven miles started at Cordova Park on the American river bike trail and ended up at the fish hatchery about seven miles. Still getting over a cold, hope to increase to 10 or more miles soon per walk. Timmy a buddy walked with me we saw 6 deer no antlers, saw a flock of wild turkeys and a ton of ducks and geese. A light rain fell for a while which was nice. When we finished we were meet by Jackie she decided that she would help me to get to the Nevada border
on some of the hiking trails that she knew, which is great because I like avoiding the roads as much as possible. Again we found no money.

Sacramento, Howe Ave - Cordova

3/5/10 Walked from about a half mile before the Howe ave overcrossing of the American river bike trail to the Cordova park a total of about 9 miles. I had to go back about a half mile and pick up exactly where I had left off the hike from the time before because of parking issues. I walked alone. It was a nice day out, its been good weather hiking. Did not see much as far as animals, there were a lot of people about riding and jogging. I found one cent, lol.
