Wilson Canyon
walked a short walk today only 6 miles. I have to say Ron is doing quite well on the walks and he has told me it has helped his sleeping and he feels better.. I'm glad to hear that. We passed through a stark lonely valley, quite beautiful place called Wilson Canyon. It had signs of an old railroad that ran against the cliff wall and of course there was a river which added to the early morning walk here: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/17454485 It was a grand views by foot. Found no money today.

Smith Valley on Hwy 208 along the river
Ron and I walked a total of 10 miles from Smith Valley town center to a rest stop on hwy 208 along the river. Stopped and got a juice at nice country store and sat out front for a while and rested then continued on to here: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/carson_city_field/blm_programs/recreation/wilson_canyon.html. While on our way about 3/4 the way to the end a nice lady in a blue sedan stopped on the highway and asked us where we were headed. She said she had seen us the day before walking and wondered where we were going. I told her across the united states!.. she seemed quite excited and was going to try to find the blog... It was nice that she stopped to say hello and check to see if she could assist us. I found one penny today.

Ron and myself walked today 9 miles starting on hwy 208 heading east passing through a small town called Wellington. We Had a nice breakfast at Rosie's cafe in town. It had authentic Mexican food that we enjoyed. We continued on another couple of miles to the town of Smith Valley another small community along the Walker river. The town was very quite mostly just ranchers and farmers, all seemed friendly. We found a total of 7 cents today.

Santa Clause
4/30/10 Today was an interesting walk I went the farthest I have done by walking 11 miles. I hope that means I'm getting in better shape. I had the pleasure of meeting up with a man whom I think is the real Santa Clause. He called himself Raymond but I think it was just to not make me suspicious. hehe. Anyway he sure looked like Santa if he wasn't. We walked as mentioned before 11 mile continuing south on 395. We also found a total of 40 cents

BORDER OF NEVADA

Finally reached the Nevada border! Found a small American flag on the side of the road and attached it to my walking stick. Did not like the look of it sitting in the dirt. It was a nice walk along 88 lots of small farms , many for sale. Found a class ring of someone's said "Dayton high class of 96" I'll look for initials on the inside as soon as I can straighten it out to try to return it to the owner. Walked only about 8 miles today . Did not find any money this walk.

Hwy 88, Kit Carson
Walked today starting at Kit Carson pass where there were lots of signs saying not to walk on the road ahead because of avalanche possibilities. But of course I could not read and proceeded down the road at a hurried pace. There were lots of small snowballs rolling down towards me at various times but I was much more concerned about getting run down than snow as the road was narrow and full of ice. I walked the first 3 miles as fast as I could , to get to a point of safety. Walked 8 miles that day. Saw a lot of snowmobiles and gorgeous scenery on snow covered hwy 88. Found no money today.

Walking with old time Friend Ron
4/15/10 Ron a long time friend walked with me today. He has diabetes and is carrying an additional 50 pounds so he took it easy . We are still at around the 8 thousand foot elevation. Just reached the silver lake dam on hwy 88. something around 23 miles to the Nevada border. Once there I plan to turn south on 395 towards Topaz lake. It was a quiet walk not much traffic and enough room to walk. Did about 8 miles total. Did not find any money on this walk.

Hwy 88 close to Nevada Border
4/09/10 Today Alex and I walked along hwy 88 there was not a lot of room along the side of the road because of all the heavy snow. Had to take it slower to miss being run down. We were at the 8000 ft elevation. Very beautiful with so much snow, saw a frozen lake. For the first time on my walk a person pulled over and asked if I needed a ride, I guess I did not look so scary to them. It was a nice gesture I thought. Also for the first time a Ranger pulled over and asked if I needed a ride which was also very nice, thank you both. Did not find any money on this walk.

HWY 50 to Mormon Emigrant Trail
Jackie and I took off from near hwy 50 on sly park road and walked a onto a network of dirt roads called Park Creek rd. for a total of about 7 miles. For the length of the entire distance we saw no one else. The forest was beautiful and the weather cool and it made for a nice walk. We reached a spot about a third the way in were 8 dirt roads came together. Finally Jackie called one of her friends to get directions to which road we should take to get out of the hub. We took the road to the right of the "t shaped metal sign" that told about Carson trail. We came out finally on the Mormon Emigrant trail three hours later. We found no money on this walk.

Rescue to Placerville
3/16/10 Had a very difficult walk today. Managed to do 10 miles but because we climbed in that 10 miles 1000 feet of elevation higher I guess I got wore out. It goes to show I'm not all the way healed from the heart attack or else not healed from taking poor care of my health in the first place. Any rate we manage to make it from the town of Rescue to the town of Placerville. We talked to several people on the walk. This is the home town of Jackie and a couple of times people noticed her and pulled their cars over to talk to her and me. It was a nice walk besides being so tiring for some reason. We found nineteen cents.
